Here are some of the questions we are often asked by parents.
How long has Cottontail been around?
First started in 1958 by four LA Unified School Principles, the camp is now owned and operated by Lynn "Chuckles" Pedroza.
What is the camper to staff ratio?
Overall we have a 1 to 4 staff to camper ratio; this ratio varies somewhat depending on the age of the campers and the activities. For water activities and horse back riding activities the ratio is usually lower about 1 to 3 and during a basketball game it might be 10 to one. Girl cabins usually have 10 girls and 2 or 3counselors and boys have 15 campers and 3 or 4 counselors.
How do the kids decide what activities they are doing each day?
Each morning the kids are shown the schedule for the following day, their counselors sit down with them and help them with their choices. We encourage kids to try everything at least once but if there is something that they are really interested in they can do them more often.
How does the program work for the 6, 7, 8 year olds?
We plan the daily schedule for the younger kids so that they have a chance to do everything in a two week session. Each day they will have an opportunity to swim, whether it is at the beach, lake or in the pool. Their counselors stay with them all day so that they will always have a familiar face with them.
Do you allow phone calls or visiting?
You will not be able to call or visit your children. We encourage you to write often or send your children emails. You can call and check in with the head counselors if you have any concerns or questions and alternately we will call you if you have any concerns.
How many children attend each session?
Each session has about 175 children.
What is the age of your staff?
The average age of our staff is 22 with a minimum age of 19 with one year of college. Our lead staff is all college graduates with many working year round as teachers.
What are your emergency procedures?

What are your medical facilities like?
We have 3 registered nurses (R.N.’s) each session, one on duty 24 hours a day and a second one on duty during the day. In addition, our infirmary keeps all medication locked and is administrated by them.
May I send my child a care package?
Yes, care packages are accepted, however, they may not include food or gum. Good examples of thing to include are: small toys, magazines, books, disposable cameras, stationery, stamps, etc. Pre-packaged care packages are available for purchase from our online store.
